In Devotion to the Divine
Aditi Someshwar
Chh. Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad)
Blessed were the devotees of Chh. Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad) to receive the teachings of Jagatguru Sree Adi Shankaracharya ji’s composition, “Bhaj Govindam”, based on the profound Vedant philosophy, by Guru Maa Purnananda ji.
Set in the pleasant sandhya timing when the sun quietly sets, Maa’s insightful words had an everlasting impact on us, kindling our devotion to the Higher, and making us reflect on the futility of the world that we have created for ourselves. Maa with various examples took us through each verse of the sacred composition, pointing out life’s experiences, making each session of three days enlightening and introspective.
The first verse itself makes a devotee wake up from slumber and complacence – it is not sufficient to just know and read the grammar of the Scriptures! One needs to understand, assimilate and implement the same (Gnyaan-Vignyaan) along with constant remembrance of Him, singing His glory (Bhakti).
Each verse and its explanation that followed could be related to by each of us in our own way in our minds. Each enthusiastic attendee picked up a message that struck his / her heart the most.
“भगवान के भक्त को निर्भय होना आवश्यक है। डर डर के साधना नहीं होती।“
“सुख छोड़ने का मतलब ये नहीं है कि दुख में रहो।“
The hall reverberated with Maa’s melodious voice, repeated collectively by all the devotees, which we carried with us to our homes in the evening, longing to come back to hear what more the revered Guru had to tell us.
Maa’s insightful words of deep Vedant explanations, drenching in devotion with “Bhaj Govindam”, and looking at the beautiful sketches in the book that was in our hands – “The Bane of the Mundane”, by Maa Purnananda ji, truly made all our senses (गो) revel in Glory of the Divine (विंद).
We stay grateful to Maa ji and seek Her grace to imbibe the teachings of Sree Guru Parampara learnt at Her Holy Feet.
