Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta - The Tune of Life

Sudha Bazaz

Hari Aum!.

My prostrations at the Holy Feet of Sree Guru Parampara.

To mark Sree Geeta Jayanti, we had an online Call Talk with Maa ji on the topic “The Divine Song”, which can also be called “The Music of Life.” When life becomes tuned with Divinity, it becomes Divine itself, and the tune of Life that flows out is the ‘Song Divine’.

We all have a physical heart and also a Spiritual heart. The Spiritual heart sustains us life after life until the final goal of Liberation is attained. The Divine Song is extremely essential for human beings, especially for Sanaatanis. This Divine Song, ‘Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta’, is beautifully composed by Sree Ved Vyasji as a part of the Great Mahabharata. Its language—Sanskrit—is profound, meaningful, and deeply elevating. The teachings are by Bhagwaan Sree Krishna to Arjun and the same is narrated by Sanjay ji to the blind king Dhritarashtra. Just as Dhritarashtra was blind, we too are blinded by our desires and vasanas. We must assimilate this wisdom to free ourselves from these vasanas.

To remove these vasanas, we must make this Divine Song a part of our daily life. Every day, at least half an hour should be devoted to reading and listening to the teachings of this sacred Scripture expounded by Sree Sadgurus. We should study Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta in chronological order, beginning with Dhyaan Shlokas written by Sree Madhusudan Saraswati. Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta is divided into eighteen chapters, also known as Ashtadashaddhyayini, and each chapter prescribes a unique Yog — eighteen Yog-s in total. This Scripture is applicable to each one of us, and we must take this divine capsule every day. When taken daily with focus, regularity, sincerity, and faith, it works like magic.

All beings—animals, unicellular organisms, and intellectual human beings—are constantly engaged in action. Action is the signature of life; action is the essence of life. We must therefore reflect deeply on every shloka of Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta. As Bharatiyas, we must know the value of this Divine Song.

On the sacred day of Sree Geeta Jayanti, which is also Mokshada Ekadashi—the day that blesses with liberation and the Jayanti of our revered Param Gurudev Sree Swami Tapovanji Maharaj—let us take a vow to study and live the teachings of this holy Text.

Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta can be broadly seen in four parts: Karm Yog, Dhyaan Yog, Bhakti Yog, and Gnyaan Yog. Maa ji recited one important shlok from each Sadhana Yog.

KARM YOG
Chapter 3, Verse 9:

"Except for actions performed as sacrifice (Yagnya), all other actions bind to this world. Therefore, O son of Kunti, perform your duties with detachment, for the sake of sacrifice."

Chapters 1 to 3 give a complete picture of Karm Yog Sadhana. When sufficient time is given to understanding and applying this Yog Sadhana, one becomes prepared for Dhyan Yog Sadhana. When karm is purified, the mind naturally becomes meditative and introspective.

DHYAAN YOG
Chapter 6, Verse 5:

"Let a man lift himself by his own Self alone, and let him not lower himself, for this Self alone is the friend of oneself, and this Self alone is the enemy of oneself."

This is the purpose of Dhyaan Yog. It makes us introspective, introverted, and contemplative so that we can uplift our mind. If sufficient time is not spent, the mind does not get cultivated in the right direction.

BHAKTI YOG

Bhakti that needs to be cultivated is explained in Chapters 7 to 12. Maa ji explained Chapter 12 - Verses 6 and 7:

ये तु सर्वाणि कर्माणि मयि सन्न्यस्य मत्पराः ।
अनन्येनैव योगेन मां ध्यायन्त उपासते ॥ ६ ॥
तेषामहं समुद्धर्ता मृत्युसंसारसागरात् ।
भवामि न चिरात्पार्थ मय्यावेशितचेतसाम् ॥ ७ ॥

“But those who worship Me, renouncing all actions in Me, regarding me as a Supreme goal, meditating on Me with single minded devotion (Yog).”

“For them whose minds are set on Me, verily I become ere- long, O Partha the saviour, (to save them) out of the ocean of finite experience; the Samsara.”

This shows the Lord’s authority and compassion toward devotees who serve with devotion.

GNYAAN YOG

When one becomes ready for Gnyaan Yog, the intellect gets purified and becomes connected with the Divine. Chapters 13 to 18 explain Gnyaan Yog.

Maa ji quoted Chapter 18, Shloka 58:

“Fixing your mind upon Me, you shall, by My grace overcome all obstacles, but if, from egoism, you will not Listen to me, you shall perish.”

Hearing these words, we need not fear, because in Verse 66, the Lord gives His ultimate assurance:

सर्वधर्मान् परित्यज्य मामेकं शरणं व्रज ।
अहं त्वा सर्वपापेभ्यो मोक्षयिष्यामि मा शुचः ॥ ६६ ॥

“Abandoning all Dharm - s (of the body, mind and intellect)  take refuge in Me alone: I will liberate thee  from all sins; grieve not.”

In this Verse, the Lord personally undertakes to help the seeker, provided the seeker offers his whole-hearted cooperation and puts forth his best efforts.

Finally, Maa ji quoted the concluding Verse of Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta—Chapter 18, Shloka 78:

यत्र योगेश्वरः कृष्णो यत्र पार्थो धनुर्धरः ।
तत्र श्रीर्विजयो भूतिर्ध्रुवा नीतिर्मतिर्मम ॥ ७८ ॥

“Wherever is Sree Krishna, The Lord of Yog, wherever is Partha, the archer, there are prosperity, victory, happiness and firm (steady or sound policy); this is My conviction.”

The divinity within us is Lord Sree Krishna. If we are ready to pick up our bow and arrow—meaning our ordained duties—and perform them with dedication, sincerity, and single-pointed focus, the outcome will certainly be prosperity, happiness, victory, and righteousness.

Let us understand the value of Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta. With the blessings of Sree Bhagawan, we can succeed in human life with virtues and righteousness.
