Hari Aum!
“Ganapati Bappa Morya! Mangal Moorty Morya!”
This is the chant that I have been chanting and hearing everywhere I go these days!
What is the purpose of celebrating Sree Ganesh Chaturthi, or any other Auspicious days? Have we given it a thought, or is it just the festivities and traditions passed on from generations and blindly followed? We don’t pay attention to the most important aspect of any worship and conveniently forget it in the fun and frolic of the festivities. THE PURPOSE behind the worship!
The purpose behind worship of any deity is to be Timeless!
To transcend from this Temporary to be Timeless, our great Rishis have given us the concept of Sree Ishwara. Brahman is timeless, i.e. Kalateet and Temporary is Kaladheen. We all are in the Kaal Chakra, hence Kaladheen while the ultimate Goal is to reach the Timeless - Kalateet.
The one who is stuck into the cycle of time cannot even think of Kalateet, Avasthateet, Gunateet. It is imperceivable by the senses. Therefore, our great rishis gave us an intermediary state of Ishwaratva to worship. We are Maya adheen but Sree Ishwara is Maya Pati.
Sree Ishwar has many forms and at this time of the year we worship Him as Sree Ganapati!
If we understand the significance and worship by constantly remembering the purpose, it will elevate us from our baser values.
Sree Ganapati Atharvasheersh Upanishad explains Kalateet and Kaladheen along with the concept of Sree Ishwar.
One should meditate on this if one wants to move ahead in one’s spiritual sadhana.
We experience change every moment which explains our being Kaladheen.
How to practice to transcend the temporary and become Kalateet?
Bhagwan Sree Ved Vyas ji has explained in Shiv Puran the chronological order:-
Karmana Jayate Bhakti,
Bhaktyat Dnyanam prajayate,
Dnyanat prajayate mukti.
Which means, when one changes his thought process through constant Shravanam of the great scriptures Karma Yog will cultivate Bhakti, Bhakti Yog will culminate into Dnyanam through Mananam on the scriptures, and Dnyan Yog will lead one to the ultimate Mukti when Nidhidhyaas is practiced. When Nidhidhyasa is accomplished it culminates into Sat Darshanam. This is Transcendental meditation.
By His Grace if we practice meditation in this prescribed way it will elevate us from being an Aarta, Artharthi or Jignyasu Bhakt to becoming a Gnyani Bhakt getting into the Transcendental!
