Simply be Unpretentious

“Karmendriyaani Sanyamya Ya Astey Manasaa Smaran; Indriyarthan Vimoodhatma Mithyaachaarah Sa Uchchyatey.” - (Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta – 3/6)
The human society is badly infected with the deep disease of hypocrisy; very unfortunate indeed! Be alert and agile while interacting with the hypocritical society. It is to unnecessarily turn away from your Real Self. In the given Shlok Sree Bhagwaan reminds us that to suppress the sense organs of action and not taming the mind to be free of worldly Vasna-s is pretence (Mithyaachaar), which is absolutely undesirable on the Sacred Path of Truth.
Denying Truth at the gross physical and subtle mental levels cannot take such a hypocrite towards the Ultimate Truth. One has to be careful to be true to oneself. Truth in thought, word and deed has to be practiced unfailingly by the seeker. Truth practiced in thought is termed as “Ritam”. So the foremost practice should be to cultivate purity and clarity of thoughts, which otherwise are generally very much impure and hence confused.
Thereafter it is about the speech. So truth practiced in speech is termed as “Satyam”. When the thoughts are pure and clear, whatever would be spoken is expected to be truthful and clear. If the words are manipulative and fumble-jumbled, it is surely the outcome of such manipulated thoughts. Therefore, Ritam and Satyam both go hand in hand and need to be practiced very cautiously and simultaneously.
Then would be possible, the practice of “Dharmam”. When there is truth in thoughts and speech, then the actions performed by such an individual would very well comply with the term “Dharmam”, which indicate performance of the meritorious acts of goodness which are beneficial for all. So it can be understood that to perform Karm on the basis of Dharm would need uncompromising support of Ritam and Satyam.
Seekers of attention lead a life of pretence. Pretence leads to tension and discord. Discord leads to back-biting and insult. So did the seeker of attention gain what he wanted or lost even the basic respect? Being a human, it is atrocious to degrade oneself. Our association with Saints and Seers should at the least make us sufficiently cultured and worthy of Their association; leave aside being worthy of Their compassion and Their Sacred Words of Wisdom!
It would be utterly disgraceful on part of a devotee or a disciple to be uncultured, pretentious and a hypocrite. It would be extremely condemnable and unpardonable indeed. Therefore, it is advisable for the devotees and disciples on the Sacred Path to be uncompromisingly straightforward, honest and unpretentious at all times. This practice itself would be the most cherished offering at the Holy Feet of Sree Guru Parampara.
