Progress and Possessiveness

“Mayi Sarvaani Karmaani Sannyasyaadhyaatm Chetasa; Niraasheernirmamo Bhootva Yuddhyasva Vigatajwarah.” – (Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta – 3/30)
Whether materially you progresses or not, time keeps progressing! Whether you are peaceful or agitated, days go past! Whether you are successful or a failure, life goes on! Whether you are a highly qualified person or just a simple villager, satisfied or dissatisfied, affluent or a popper, a resourceful person or incompetent; these given contrasts do not stop your progress, nor do any of these makes you less possessive or non-possessive!
Doubtlessly man is progressive and possessive. While progress makes you happy, possessiveness brings sorrow. Company of the Wise beings a totally different perspective towards life. It becomes a game-changer. It encourages you to see the world and the happenings from a higher standpoint and hence completely changes your view towards whatever you come across in life. Fortunately your association with the Men-of Wisdom not only saves you from possessiveness, it also definitely pushes you towards unfathomable progress and satisfying success in life, due to the positive change in your own vision of life as a whole.
The assurance implied in the given Shlok further inspires the seeker to dedicate oneself to the Divine. Apparently it indicates as though Sree Bhagwaan commands Arjun to renounce all his actions unto Him by giving up ego and expectations, remaining well-centred in the Self; and go ahead to fight! But a deeper thought gives us the clarity that the Lord is not at all pushing Arjun in the hopeless and submissive darkness. In our ignorance and misunderstanding that we are unable to give up even after studying the Scriptures for a long time, we often fail to benefit from the valuable blessings of the Divine and to perform successfully in life!
The company of the Wise that we avail from reading and studying the Sacred Scriptures provided by Sree Guru Parampara, or from listening to Their discourses upon the Holy Texts; should lead us to set our intellect onto righteous thinking, to tame our mind to remain focused on the Divine and to perform obligatory duties and responsibilities sensibly, efficiently and cheerfully.
Recently, members of our Satyavrat Study Circle at Ch. Sambhaji Nagar hosted Sreemad Bhaagwat Saptaah Mahaayagnya as Mukhya Yajmaan and Upayajmaan. Right from requesting me to give discourses on the same, requesting Chaitanyaji (Manish) for all the Spiritual support and technical help, hosting the fellow-devotees joining in from other places; up to sincerely, efficiently, humbly and cheerfully organizing the 9-day long Sacred activities from beginning to conclusion, is truly an expression of what Sree Bhagwaan is implying in the given Shlok. I pray for the well-being of all those who were directly or indirectly involved in organizing it. I pray for further Spiritual progress of the Mukhya Yajmaan and all Upayajmaan-s for wonderful and careful execution of this, one of the most important Karm of their life, while obviously reducing their possessiveness to minimum; without which, the peace and happiness that one and all obtained, would not have been possible!
To fight out our own lower tendencies, negativities and worldly desires is the toughest fight each one of us has to face as the biggest challenge in life. These undesirable thoughts and feelings disturb us tremendously from within and are very sickening indeed. But as per Lord’s advice given here, if one drops the expectations and possessiveness, how beautifully and efficiently can the worldly activities be performed, bringing in all the glory, success, peace and happiness; is to be truly learnt by organizing such Holy activities that are greatly beneficial and surely the need-of-the-hour for taking the society in the right direction.
On the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Navraatri and Sree Ram Navami, seeking the blessings of the Divine Mother Goddesses and Lord Sree Ram, let us resolve to remain centred in the Self and continue to perform our bounden duties sincerely and cheerfully.
