IMPORTANCE OF DHANTRAYODASHI
Sunanda – Dubai (UAE)
“Hari Aum!
Q) What is importance of Dhantrayodashi and how should one observe it? “
Manish ji’s reply:
[As understood by me]
“Lord Dhanvantri is the God of Health of the Devtas.
As the Legend goes, Lord Dhanvantri appeared on trayodashi of Samudra Manthan with Amrit Kalash in his hand. Amrit signifies immortality. We fear death the most, death of the physical body. Atman cannot die. Death of the physical body is just like change of clothes for Atman, when the prarabdha of this body is exhausted. The new body acquired will be according to the vasana fructification. So, Lord Dhanvantri with the Amrit Kalash in his hand signifies good health and wealth.
But we are stuck in the tradition of only buying new utensils or gold or silver on this auspicious day! We get caught in the world and compare gold and silver prices and markets but never observe our own progress compared to the years gone by. Objective happiness is short lived, and when objective happiness is experienced sorrow must follow.
This Auspicious day should be observed as good health which has been bestowed by the Divinity in the body to take one to the path of Self-discovery. It is upon the person observing the day how he wants to observe it. Celebrate it as a worldly person focusing on worldly wealth, or on spiritual wealth and uplift of the Self.
If we put our faith in the Scriptures and the Guru, there is a possibility of evolution, else we will be stuck in transmigration.”
