ANAND of the SATCHIDANAND

Sunanda (Dubai – U.A.E)

“Hari Aum! Can you kindly explain, what is Anand when we say Brahman is Satchidanand?”

Manish ji’s reply: [as understood by me]

“Sat Chid Anand are the attributes or properties given to That ‘Attribute less’. The Gunateet Brahman is difficult for mind to conceptualize unless some name and form is assigned to It. The concept of Isht-Dev is given for the mind to hold on to It. Mind is Maya functioning at the micro individual level. It also works as per the Gunas, the colors of the mind.

Brahman is Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, One without a second; these are again attributes assigned to Brahman, but are not completely relatable to the mind. These suggest Infinity which again is a concept of the mind that will vary from individual to individual.

Therefore, Sat Chid Anand are attributes which are easily comprehensible to the mind.

Sat is ever present in all 3 periods of time and beyond.

Chid is Conscious; all Knowledge.

Anand is Bliss, complete Joy and eternal Peace.

We pay attention to the projections of Maya in the outer world than, what we are. We do not pay attention to: - I am, because of this Conscious principle. I am Anand.

Anand is what one is looking for. Everyone is looking outside instead of within. We look for Joy or Anand by possessing objects which is very fleeting and impermanent. The social way of looking at things is completely opposite to what is prescribed or advised by the Shastras. One cannot buy ones’ life from death no matter whatever one possesses. Anand is not the property of Brahman but quality assigned to Brahman for the mind to understand it. We try to think of That which is unthinkable which is beyond perception with limited organs of perceptions.

Mind is within the sway of Maya with which we try to further grossify, that which is subtler than the subtlest.

Through sincere sadhana, may the mind turn towards eternal peace instead of fleeting joys.”
