Q) “Kindly help me understand, is it possible for the mind to exist as a witness?”

[As understood by me]

A) A)Yes, it is possible, the technique of which is given in our Shastras. Mind by its very nature, is extroverted. Due to its continuous association with the world outside, it develops a strong sense of ‘I-ness’ and ‘My-ness’ which completely super-cedes the power of being a witness. The strong delusion of I-ness and My-ness supposedly overpowers that aspect or power in us, because of which alone we are able to function or exercise our capabilities in day-to-day living. As a result of this overpowering, even our organs of perception and action spin frantically in the outside world under the guidance of such a mind. For example, when we visit someone’s house, we choose to be a witness and not interfere in their household activities. Why? The reason being – we are not ‘ATTACHED’ there physically or mentally. Here lies the key to bring the mind to be a witness! Mental (and not just physical) detachment with the un-divine must be practiced by increasing ‘ASSOCIATION’ with the ‘Divine’. With this connect with the Higher, the play of mind reduces, mind gradually comes under control and exists as a witness.
