Here at SISS, the Abode of the Guru-s, we offer 200th episode, of the telecast of series of discourses on Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta, at the Altar of Sree Ishwara and Holy-feet of the Guru-s by whose grace and blessings this could happen. This episode will be telecast on Epic Channel on the weekend falling in mid-July 2018.
But what kind of effort was put in to earn the blessings so that this could happen? It all started with the great inspiration that we get from Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta itself. The Lord’s words are so captivating that once you start learning from it, you just cannot stop!
Initially Bhagawad Geeta seems to be a difficult Text to the listener, because it is not the usual subject matter which is discussed and debated upon on day-to-day basis. Even though the Geeta is a popular scripture amongst the believers, devotees, scholars and amongst people coming from different walks of life; not many would be adopting the instructions given by the Lord in it, for the purpose of elevation of their life and for self-evolution. But those who sincerely do so, they eagerly read the Geeta regularly, and even repeatedly, for their own benefit.
Some such people began to attend the regular classes on Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta held twice in a month here. For the benefit of the listeners it was decided to record the discourses, as it would be good for them to revise the chapters at their end through its DVDs. By then, some of those from other places started enquiring for the DVDs of the Geeta discourses.
It was indeed a big responsibility to record the discourses at uninterrupted regular intervals, because not only that it is time-consuming but it also needs technical and aesthetic knowhow along with unending patience and extreme focus. Not just recording, there is a complete pre-production process, comprising of several intricate steps, that has to be accomplished before it can reach the hands of the watchers. Soon the whole responsibility of all this, from pin to piano, was humbly taken over by Sri Manish Sharma. Manish has the vision, capability, dexterity and most importantly, the zeal to serve the Sacred cause at the Holy-feet of Sree Guru Parampara and for which, he is surely blessed by the Guru-s.
The recording commenced and its further processing also was taken up alongside on the completion
of each chapter.
One by one, the chapters of Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta got released at the
time of various auspicious celebrations here. These DVDs have become a precious collection
for many households by now.
A thorough study of the Geeta under the guidance of the Guru is a comprehensive solution for all kinds of queries about the fundamentals of human psychology along with the techniques of treatment for its improvement and elevation. This aspect of the Geeta is addressed as ‘Yogshaastra’. Not only this, Geeta covers the other aspect addressed as ‘Brahmvidya’ as well, which means that this Sacred Text is a perfect source of the Sacred Knowledge-of-Brahm – the Supreme Reality, as well as how to attain this Absolute Reality. to sum up we can say that an aspirant who has been able to elevate his mind by practising Yogshaastra, is thereafter eligible to pursue Brahmvidya.
By the time all this was happening, it was decided that complete series of discourses on the Geeta needs to be telecast on a TV channel for the benefit of devotees and keen learners. On Saturday 7th November 2015, the first episode of discourses in English on Adi Shankaracharya’s “Bhaja Govindam” was telecast on the Epic channel followed by discourses in Hindi on “Sree Hanuman Chalisa”; both were recorded earlier.
Subsequently began the marathon telecast of discourses in English on “Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta”. The morning telecast on weekends provides a healthy and righteous thought-process to the regular watchers which, if imbibed, could become a life-changer! Initially it was telecast for half an hour every Saturday morning only, which soon the viewers found very short a time. They felt that by the time they could grasp a little, it used to get over! So on their request, one more half an hour episode started being telecast every Sunday morning as well, much to their satisfaction. May the Almighty Lord bless each and every one who has directly or indirectly offered service towards this noble cause right from recording to release and telecast; without their selfless service it would not have been possible.
One can say that the purpose of telecast of these discourses is being well-served as hundreds of aspirants benefit from watching it. In my view, this is one of the best ways to offer our gratitude at the Holy-feet of the Guru-s, as a humble service to mankind. As given in the beginning –
“……Vidya Dadaati Vinayam Vinayaadyaati Paatrataam;
Paatrattvaat Dhanamaapnoti Dhanaat Dharmam Tatah Sukham.”
“Knowledge leads to discipline (education), education makes one worthy (of a virtuous character); one earns wealth as per one’s worth, and from the wealth earned, he leads a righteous life, which in turn brings him serene happiness.” - Hitopadesh
Sreemad Bhagawad Geeta provides ‘Brahm Vidya’, the Supreme Knowledge. The Lord says in the Geeta – “…..It is the highest Knowledge, after Knowing which nothings else remains to be known.” So, the Lord, through the Geeta showers such happiness upon all those who put their best effort to understand the subtle message He has given to Arjun, and, strive hard to live up to His advice given therein.
