Hari Aum!

Happy New Year to all. Start of 2019 has been blissful with Guru Maa's blessings on the very first day with Sree Vishnu Sahastranaam Homam. And now a retreat on Sree Adi Shankaracharya ji's 'Saadhna Panchakam' on the last weekend of the month.

Saadhna Panchkam is the series of steps or Spiritual practices to be followed by those who seek to progress on this Divine path. 'Saadhna' is the means by which a goal is reached. And 'Panchkam ' means a set of five. Each of these five verses describe eight individual steps adding up to forty altogether.

Mata ji gave an insight to all the forty steps. She said as a Saadhak we need to use this text as Saadhan, read, practice and assimilate to complete our Saadhna.

Firstly we need to study Scriptures daily and all Vedic rituals are to be performed properly. With these rituals Sree Ishwara's grace is to be invoked. Prayers should not be for the sake of fulfilling our desires but for the sake of reducing our sins. The defects of worldly pleasures are to be reflected upon. Desire for true self is to be cultivated. We should escape from the bondage of home that is our comfort zone.

In the second verse Mata ji explained that association with saintly people is to be cultivated. We have to be established in firm devotion to the Lord. Virtues like tranquility, forbearance are to be cultivated. Selfish actions are quickly to be given up, take up those activities which are motivated by Divine. Surrender to the perfect Guru. Daily serve his lotus feet and practice his Ideals. Worship OM the immutable Brahman. The highest Scriptural teachings are to be heard directly from the Gurus.

Third verse says with guidance from the Gurus the meaning of the Mahavakyas is to be inquired into. We must act in life in accordance with Scriptures to come to realize the Mahavakya's properly. Improper use of logic and reasoning is to be avoided, instead reasoning employed by the Scriptures is to be followed. The teaching 'I am Brahman' is to be contemplated upon. Renounce pride and surrender totally. Give up the idea: I am the Body. Give up arguments with the wise.

Fourth verse says treat hunger and disease. Seek food as medicine just to relieve hunger. Do not seek delicious food. Be content with whatever comes your way. Mata ji said Santosh is a very big virtue. Endure all pairs of opposite. Avoid unnecessary talks. Be indifferent to ups and downs of life. Give more to the world than you take.

As it is an individual journey, in solitude live joyously. Fix your mind on the Supreme. Recognize your own fullness. Recognize the world's falsity. Conquer the effects of deeds done in earlier lives by present right actions. Through wisdom become detached from future karmas. Experience and exhaust the past actions that started praarabdh. Thereafter live absorbed in Bhava 'I am Brahman'.

Just like one has to climb a number of steps to enter a temple and see the Deity inside, in the same way we have to perform these forty Spiritual practices to discover the unchanging, limitless Consciousness i.e. our True nature.

Lastly, would like to thank Manish ji who gave us the experience of watching Republic Day Parade on big screen. We have been fortunate to be under the grace and guidance of Mata ji for past three years. May we continue our journey towards the Supreme. Pranaam to Guru Maa .

Thank you Manishj ji and all fellow seekers.
