Hari Aum!

December is celebrated widely as the birth of Jesus Christ a prophet who showed the path inward to the masses, what more could one ask, than to have HH Maa Purnanandaji with us on this very auspicious day i.e. 25th December 2018 to take us further in our inward journey on this occasion and to learn the intricacies of Kaivalya Upanishad, significance of Sree Ashtalakshmi Stotram and Aranya Kaand from Goswami Tulsidasji written Sree Ramcharit Manas.

“Every religious scripture has been written to uplift us to our inner true Self by saints profounding the religion. Jesus Christ should be born each day in our heart and mind to remind us each day of our Divine Self” these words from Maaji are still reverberating in my mind. So true, ways may be different but leads to the same true Self- Satchidanand.

We generally sing the Sree Ashtalakshmi stotram as a prayer/bhajan glorifying the goddess in all her eight forms. All prayer and bhajans are very soothing to the ears and it is left at that, this is the first time we experienced the real meaning of this stotram when during the evening session Maaji started explaining the importance and significance of each word in the stotram. The best part is how well Maaji takes the entire stotram to the next level by subtly connecting it to the Vedanta philosophy.

The first step in our journey inwards to find our true selves requires for us to build the right virtues and sadgunas therefore we first salute to Adi-Lakshmi who is the initial expression of virtues/sattvic aspect of the Panch mahabhoota’s. Only the pure minded and people who use sweet language and are virtuous can attain Moksha by the grace of Adi-Lakshmi.

Food that we eat provides us the nourishment for the mind and for the body, body surives not by food but by what is assimilated by the mind while eating the food. Food should always be eaten with prasaad bhava and should never be condemned, We pray to Dhaanya-Lakshmi to bless us with good food that nourishes our minds and body to keep us healthy and steadfast in our sadhana.

Patience is a virtue, we always worship Dhairya- Lakshmi to help us maintain our patience so that we can have a peaceful mind. The mind intellect equipment is originally peaceful but is veiled by the external forces of Maya. With the blessings of Dhairya-Lakshmi we can enhance our Knowledge and dispel the darkness. Knowledge certainly brings more calm in our life thereby leading us to a more peaceful living.

Gaja-Lakshmi is depicted as sitting on a lotus flower and two white elephants performing Abhishekam with pure water. She is the bestower of the discriminatory power or the intelligence in us, she helps us find solutions to our problems and using our intellect at the right time when required. The elephants doing the Abhishekam depict the essence of prayers, only with continuous touch with divinity with thorough chanting of Japas/ stotrams will we be blessed with the intelligence to progress our journey to find our true Self just like Gajaraj.

Time flew while listening to Maaji and the various concepts she explained in her own unique ways in the first four stanzas of the stotram. Now have to build the patience and the intellect to absorb the next session to complete the significance of Sree Santan-Lakshmi, Vijaya Lakshmi, Vidya Lakshmi and Dhana Lakshmi so that there is more food for thought in the next visit.

Pranaams at the lotus feet of Maaji.
